Frozen Pipes in Bozeman, Montana

Below freezing temperatures can cause havoc with pipes. Take some easy steps to help prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting. First, be sure to maintain heat in your home, even if you are traveling for the holidays. If you do leave home for an extended period of time, leave cabinet doors open beneath your kitchen and bathroom sinks. This simple task will allow for air flow to keep warm air circulating around your pipes. If your hot water heater is located in a garage or basement, consider wrapping the pipes with foam insulation. That will help keep the hot water heater from freezing. Check around exterior doors to make sure rubber seals are working to prevent cold air from getting inside. If you do have a water loss from frozen pipes, be sure to call your plumber. Most insurance policies require the insured to take immediate steps to mitigate.
